what are you doing in the water are you okay do you need help my guest today somehow encourages people to jump into the lake in the dead of winter Mr Nick MCN bad roads bring good people it really does mean that the people that show up are willing to go through a little bit of discomfort to get there naturally it's going to bring the right people with the right attitude when
like WTF about it more like I think to get involved you know and you guys pioneered that I still think you are I've gone through a lot of the unbounded experiences um really well put together uh from start to finish thank you um it is an experience you know yeah so um as a cold plunger myself I definitely see the the values in it um the people I've met in the community so uh so thank you for putting all that
it's like a sense of of um ability and and durability and you know at a time where I think everyone's got this this sense of like what's what's the purpose here technolog is moving really fast there's so much opportunity there's a lot more stress there's a lot more anxiety that's also prevalent and so how are you combating that on the other hand with other things in your life to make yourself feel more at home in your body
awareness to I think vulnerability and and sharing and so that was giving people a platform to talk about uh things that might not have been great in their life and and use books as a medium for discussing that um and then before that I had a meal delivery company um and before that uh I was big into the Fitness and Wellness space and so I've always just been an entrepreneur totally enamored with the idea of taking
know there's this many beautiful things I can experience or I think there's this much wealth I can acrew or there's uh this many people I can meet like there is really no limit um and so the more we're aware of that the better it helps our lifestyle and you said you started you did a ton of traveling in your early 30s because you couldn't before yeah why why couldn't you I mean I definitely did the hustle grind starting uh my food
know yeah yeah so having been there what did you learn from that like when you share about being there yeah I mean um honestly I was listening to to Alex Heros the other day and he says it beautifully and I think that you know there's a bunch of different ways you could say it but he he says really well it's like you've got to fall in love with the process or he's taking the quote from I
about cuz I hate selling it's one of the things that like I I abhor the most is is the feeling of trying to sell someone on something so when I can authentically be like proud to share this and like like really encouraging people to try this without it feeling like a sales pitch I'm like oh there's something here that I feel strongly about and so the food company for me I was a fitness competitor back in my day yeah standing
are you doing this again next weekend and can I bring a friend and then again you know within within a very short amount of time a couple months later we had hundreds of people doing the dip and so these are things that I've been practicing for myself and then I see the value in other people's lives and then I'm like well is it something good for people and do I feel authentic in sharing it and growing it and
life right and um they're very connected in their Community um they live simply they're connected to Nature um they eat moderately uh they watch the sun rise they watch the sun fall they have engagement with people within the different parts of the community and I think that like they've got it right in terms of how they operate throughout their day with what really matters um and I think that we get lost in sort of
can definitely relate it doesn't take long too it doesn't take long to shift in like you know we're very much a product of our environments and so when you are traveling typically you know 3 4 days it takes for you to kind of like hit the ground running and and get up to speed is what the new Norm is and then it also doesn't take very long when you come back to get sucked back into Old patterns and routines and that's why I
pushing yourself that's a hormetic response you're getting into cold water and it feels uncomfortable that's a hormetic response so cold plunging would be the process of getting into a cold body of water be it a a tub a lake a river a shower um and creating a stress response in your body that you have to overcome physically and mentally beautiful beautiful and what are the benefits of it I mean there's many uh
Global inflammation your ctis reduces it um it helps with uh your cardiovascular system and there's still more and more physiological benefits coming out mentally I think is where a lot of it is for people right now which is that you stand there and it's not something you want to do it's not something that's comfortable and you work through it in order to get through it right so you're
um you know my prescription for anti-depressants or I struggle with anxiety and this is one of the things in my life that helps me manage this by no means is this me saying that it deals with anxiety stress or depression but we do know that healthy stress helps our ability to manage stress there's never going to be a time in your life where you don't experience stress it's inevitable regardless of how successful
what I said before it's it's a tool that you can then take something happens you have like a a near Miss in a car you you feel that pay of stress you can breathe through it you get that text and it's like oh this is not something I really want to deal with you can work yourself back from it it's it's a tool that is uh able to be utilized for any other places where your body sees stress it it doesn't matter whether it's like
around uh done by uh Dr Susanna soberg that uh staying up until about 5 minutes there's certain additional metabolic um benefits in terms of metabolism but we don't recommend that people stay usually past 2 to 3 minutes it is all relative there's certainly a period of time where you can go into preh hypothermic um you know there's certainly a time that can be fatal 45 minutes in a cold tub
fad when people first started posting about um sitting in an icehole or doing a coal plunge I think it was a bit more shock and awe um I think it was able to be sort of this like look what I'm doing moment um and I think that that will die out I don't think that's going to stick around where people are posting their plunges as much I know I've seen certain people do every type of gimmick in order to get likes and Views and and
it is also like a uh a driver of people doing unsafe things unhealthy things it it kind of plays on the ego a little bit uh which the whole practice is meant to be kind of an ego check um it's meant to be a moment where your Void of your ego you're kind of in that moment for yourself connecting with yourself or connecting with another uh and so it's kind of like counterintuitive that it's it's an e it's an ego moment it's a
you think are some some strategies that they can do to deal with that yeah I mean I think that at at like at the base of you you mentioned it earlier which is like the nervous system right beneath a lot of what we do in a day or or what we do as a salesperson or um as a citizen or anyone really is like what is our nervous system doing beneath that and often when we're unhealthy it's that our
and those neurons um correlate with the retinas and how we view low Horizon sunlight and that sets uh that set of neurons sets all of our hormonal and neurological processes for the day with our cortisol and with uh a melatonin Spike 16 hours later and so if you don't get up in the morning and immediately hop on your phone or you know sit in a dark room or you're you're stunting your ability for how you're going to operate
that's there with you and the reality is everyone's just on islands all around each other and the more that you make each other aware of this shared struggle which I think is just part of The Human Experience the better it feels to go through it all great points so great because it's easy to do like these are easy things to do MH right it's not like you're saying like you know you need to meditate for 30 minutes in the morning
with uh the the tools that you use and then I would say the other thing is like trying not to make these things check marks right like a lot of people will do like okay I did my breath work or I I did my workout I got my steps and and all these things become check marks to then create their own stress um and they think that's like being well or that's like how I'm going to be able to fill up my Wellness bucket
cuz like you know I got to do this and I'm God I'm I'm behind yeah so I can relate um so thank you for sharing that and then last question uh just to end it off uh because you are entrepreneur over and you've done things successfully and clearly you know super well spoken um individual a lot of experience in life to the aspiring entrepreneur out there or you know someone who's maybe
you get lost in is we our identity becomes what we do it becomes what our product is it becomes what we're selling becomes that whole journey we and it's natural because we're putting our passion into it we're putting everything we have every waking moment becomes about this entity that you're driving forward and so naturally we we see ourselves in it and then we attach our expectations our successes our failures
can it can just leak into everything I agree fully but Nick you've been awesome appreciate that man thanks for yeah uh to those that want to find you connect come to an unbounded event where can they find you yeah um uh social media uh Stam bounded is the the brand personal social media Nick MCN same thing with websit Stam bound. com Nick mcn. com um yeah any cool events coming up we do yeah we have uh big Sunrise social
